Hong Kong PGA Order of Merit – Seniors Division (Leg 4) & Ladies Division (Leg 3) Report
August 31, 2011
The two day- competition at Hong Kong Discovery Bay Golf Club was ended successfully. The name of the winner of both division were not strange for us – Mr. Tang Man Kee and Ms. Betty Ng. Both players were already captured 2 winning titles in total for the order of merit events in this year.
After the 1st round of competition at Seniors Division,Tang Man Keeand William Fung were leading the field. With better performance in the beginning stage of the final round, Fung stepped up and took the 2 stroke lead over Tang. This result went on until they reached the 16th hole Par 5. Fung chose the safe way, too safe perhaps, to attack the pin in three within a reachable distance for his 2nd shot. In return, Fung got a bogey and Tang made a birdie in this hole. Match was level!
On 17th hole 200 yards Par 3, Fung got his two consecutive bogey while Tang successfully made his par. These 3 strokes capturing within two holes made Tang beat his buddy competitor, William Fung, to won the title on this stage. At the post-match interview, Tang expressed that the cloudy weather was the reason for his slow start; however, he was happy about staying focus during the round, especially when he was behind and finally grabbed the chance when Fung made mistakes.
At the Ladies Division, match was much more hardly predicting. At start of the final round, all of the four players were having chance to capture the title. Ng and Ho were making the match in a clearer view after 9 holes with their solid performance. If Ng wasn’t performing as different as normal on the 18th green, the match wouldn’t need the playoff hole to decide the winner.
The playoff hole was held on the 1st hole Par 4. Ho put his tee shot on the right side long rough area, meaning she had forfeiting the chance of attacking the pin in two shots. At end, Ng won the first playoff hole with a Par. At the post-match interview, Ng expressed that she clearly understood her position in the final stage; leader was leading her by 4 shots and 2 players behind were only 1 stroke back. She was happy for her patient during match and it finally paid off. She also mentioned that the next event at Yinli would be a difficult match, as high quality players from around Asia, including China, Japan, Korea and Taiwan, would come and participated to the tournament.
Next event of Seniors Division will be in late September and Ladies Division will be in October. Please stay with us for more updated news!
