2011 AGEAS HKPGA CHAMPIONSHIP SET FOR LATE MARCH; RETURNS TO ORIGINAL FORMAT

HKPGA announced the 2011 Ageas HKPGA Championship will be played from 29-31 March and will return to its original three-course format. In order to accommodate the busy schedules of international players, we have brought forward the dates for the championship from September to March this year, the 54-hole stoke play tournament will be played at Clearwater Bay Golf & Country Club, the Old Course at Hong Kong Golf Club and the challenging North Course at Kai Sai Chau Golf Course. Pro-Am will be played on 28th March at Hong Kong Golf Club.

This will be an interesting challenge to players like C.J. Gatto (Defending champion), and Wayne Grady (1990 USPGA Champion) who had his first appearance in HKPGA Championship last year. Other players include two-time winner Dominique Boulet, 2001 champion Derek Fung and 2010 Ageas Order of Merit winner Wong Woon-man. European Tour player, Jean Van De Velde, a well-known French player residing in HK and Honorable Member of HKPGA will also participate. The HKD 300,000 purse has attracted more than 70 professional golfers from all over Asia Pacific region.

Mr. Stuart Fraser, CEO of Ageas Insurance Company (Asia) Limited recalled the exciting moments during the match between Gatto and Grady last September. He offered his best wishes to all players this year.

Speaking on behalf of HKPGA, Mr. Lee Parker, Director of HKPGA Training Program, showed his appreciation to Mr. Fraser and Ageas on their support and contributions to Order of Merits and HKPGA Championships.

With the organization of more professional tournaments provide more opportunities to local golf professionals to compete and hone their skills, and for the young professionals, an opportunity to gain experience from competing and playing at a higher level as thy begin their professional careers. This is an important tournament that no golfers should miss.
