Result of the Ageas HKPGA Order of Merit – Open Division

September 1st, 2010

The 3rd leg of the Open division was held on Discovery Bay GC on 30th and 31st Aug. The first day was hot and stuffy under Typhoon signal No.1 with gusty wind made it more challenging for the 46 competitors. Eric Ma led the first day by an excellent round of 68 (3 under par), closely followed by Tang Man Kee's 70.

All competitors performed better under improved weather condition on 2nd day with 6 players under par. Ducky Tang (winner of the 1st leg) finished with a brilliant 65, the best score of the day. He tied 2nd with William Fung. First day leader Ma did not perform as well as he expected on the 2nd day & slipped to joint 7th place.

Finally, Wong Woon Man, a seasoned player took the championship of the 3rd leg scoring 140 (73, 67). "I mentally erased a few mistakes I made on the 1st day, made some technical corrections, and most of all, set a target for 5-6 birdies for the next day. My determination paid off with 5 birdies resulting a 4 under for the 2nd day, winning the tournament by 1 stroke." Wong humbly commented.

HKPGA Senior & Ladies Division – Order of Merit

The HKPGA Senior division Leg 3 and & Ladies Division Leg 4 were held at Hong Kong Discovery Bay Golf Club on the 23 & 24th of August 2010. The winner of the Senior division was Liu Kai Mung, Liu opened the 1st day with a steady even par round of 71 but the sizzling 67 on the 2nd, a combined score of 138, was good enough to secure the win, 'we had a big downpour just after the first hole but luckily it did not affect my rhythm and my putting was very solid throughout the day which netted 2 birdies at the front & back, I am very happy with the win', said Liu.

At the Ladies division, Annie Lau captured the title with an opening round of 75 & 81 on the 2nd, a total combined score of 156. 'I had a decent round on the first day' said Lau, but the sudden rainstorm this morning did have a small effect with my swing, luckily my course knowledge and short game helped me save a lot pars to enable me to win by one shot.

Gibson captures 2nd Fortis HKPGA Order of Merit 2010 Title

The Fortis HKPGA Order of Merit 2010 Leg 2 for the Open Division has finished smoothly on 24/25 May. Fortis has also sponsored a total purse of HKD 70,000 for the 3rd Leg this year. Australian Grant Gibson took the title in the Hong Kong Golf Club with a 70, 69 (total 139) while Dominique Boulet finished second with a score of 69, 71 (total 140).

Ladies champion goes to Vicky Ho Mei Dik, she has been playing very consistently and taking her 2nd championship of the year with an 83 & 77 (total 160).

Out of the 53 competitors, 2 amateurs were by invitation representing Hong Kong Golf Association. Although the temperature was nearly 29 C during the 2-day competition, cool breeze alleviated the competitors.

Result of 2010 HKPGA Order of Merit Leg 2 - Senior & Ladies Division

The 2010 HKPGA Order of Merit Leg 2 of the Senior & Ladies Division took place on May 17 & 18 at Dongguan Long Island Golf & Country Club with 21 players competing the top spot over 2 days, players from both division played well with respectable scores.

The winner of the Senior Division is Tang Man Kee with a combined score of 73 & 74, this is Tang’s first attempt to compete at the senior division. He was winner of the 1992 HKPGA Golf Championship and is known as '66' with his lowest career round.

The winner of the Ladies Division is Vicky Ho Mei Dik with a combined score of 72 & 77.

Meeting Mr. Tony Bennett, Director of Education The PGAs of Europe

The HKPGA has become a member of The Professional Golfers’ Associations of Europe (The PGAs of Europe) since November 2008. It is the first association from Asia to be accepted into the “family”. With the view to polishing and adding in new elements to the golf professional training program, The HKPGA is honored to have Mr. Tony Bennett, Director of Education The PGAs of Europe (co PGA Master Professional), to give a lecture to its member at the Jockey Club KSC golf course.

The PGAs of Europe is an official association with a history of 21 years. The Association comprises members from 37 countries. Amongst which, 32 are from Europe and 5 from overseas. A country has to meet the Association’s standard of coaching and professional training program before they are qualified to be a member. Ducky Tang clinched the 1st Fortis HKPGA Order of Merits 2010

The Fortis HKPGA Order of Merit 2010 kicked off on the 19 & 20th April at Kau Sai Chau - North Course with 3 different divisions, the Open, Seniors and Ladies Division. The HKPGA is honored to have Fortis this year as the title sponsor for a series of 3 Order of Merit events with prize money of HK$70,000 for each event. Champion from Open Division would go on to represent Hong Kong in the Mission Hills World Cup Qualifier and also qualify for the Hong Kong Open. A total of 66 players, including 3 elite amateur players representing the Hong Kong Golf Association, joined the tournament. Ducky Tang captured the top spot from Open Division. Tang Ching Pun clinched the title of Senior Divisions with a 2-day-combined score of 155. The Ladies Division title went to Melody Chan with a combined score of 158.

Fortis to Title Sponsor The HKPGA Championship & Order of Merit

Hong Kong PGA announced on 9 April 2010 the association is honored to have Fortis, one of the largest international insurance companies as Title Sponsor of The Hong Kong PGA Championship and Order of Merit for the next three years and the first Championship will be played in the 4th quarter 2010.

The Fortis Hong Kong PGA Championship 2010 will be the 27th playing of this prestigious tournament on the Hong Kong golfing calendar and the impressive list of past winners include European tour winner Carl Mason, the 1999 Asian tour OOM winner, Kyi Hla Han and, of course, China’s favourite, Zhang Lian Wei.

Fortis will also sponsor a series of 3 Order of Merit events with prize money of HK$70,000 for each event to be played during the year over different courses in Hong Kong. 6 HKPGA members gain tickets for the 2009 UBS Hong Kong Open

The UBS Hong Kong Open, one of the most important events on golfing calendar, will take place on November 12 to 15 at The Hong Kong Golf Club. The total prize for this year tournament has grown up to USD 2.5 Million with 8 Hong Kong representatives joining the game, 6 of them are members of HKPGA, including David Freeman and Wong Woon Man, who were also Hong Kong representatives at the World Cup. The remaining 4 are William Fung, Lokky Lee, Chris Tang and Derek Fung who got through the qualifying round at Kau Sai Chau Golf Course. 16-year-old junior golfer Steven Lam won the Hong Kong Close Amateur Championships on January 2009 is also qualified to the game. The last place would be given to the Champion of the Hong Kong Open Amateur Championships, which will be taken place from November 3 to 6 at Discovery Bay Golf Club.

Lin Chien Bing from Taiwan captured the Open Division championship of the 7th Yinli HKPGA Classic 2009 and the prize of $138,000

Huang Tung LiangThe 7th Yinli HKPGA Classic, the most significant event on the Hong Kong Professional Golfers’ Association’s calendar with notable order of merit points, took place on Oct 19 – 20 at Yinli Foreign Investors Golf Club, Dongguan. The annual event was organized by HKPGA, major sponsored by Yinli Golf Club and co-sponsored by Mr. Cheng Kwee and Mr. Alan Kwok Chin Kwok, the total purse for the event has grown to HK$900,000 with elite professional players from Mainland China, Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong invited to take part.

Lin Chien Bing from Taiwan captured the Open Division championship and the prize of $138,000 with a 2-day-combined score of 141 (70/71). Poh Eng Teck from Singapore clinched the title of Senior Division and the prize of $25,000 with a total core of 144 (71/73). The Ladies Division title and the prize of $20,000 went to Yang Hong Mei with the score of 141 (69/72).

– Champion of the Yinli HKPGA Order of Merit – Leg 5

The Yinli HKPGA Order of Merit 2009 – Leg 5 was played on the 28th and 29th September at Hong Kong Discovery Bay Golf Club with 43 players participated in the game including 3 amateur golf players from HKGA. The game was cut short on the second day due to poor weather condition and water flooding some of the fairways. The tournament committee had to conclude the tournament with the first day result in the end, and Wong Woon Man emerged as the winner with the score of 70.

The first day of the game was played with typhoon signal No.1 hoisted and despite the unfavorable weather; players produced steady performance. Experienced golfer Wong Woon Man led the game by carding a 70 while Wilson Choy and amateur player De Lacy Staunton finished second with 71. The game was suspended on the second day after 4 hours since...

Result of Yinli HKPGA Order of Merit 2009 Leg 4
– Senior and Ladies Division

The Yinli HKPGA Order of Merit Leg 4 – Senior and Ladies Division took place on September 21 and 22 at Dongguan Yinli Foreign Investors Golf Club. William Fung from the Senior Division won the championship with a combine score of 152 while the Ladies Division title went to Sandy Tao with a combine score of 158.

The tournament was suspended after Hole 9 for 30 minutes on the first day due to strong wind and pouring rain. Players’ performances were affected after the game resumed under the tough environment resulted from the unexpected thunderstorm...

Derek Fung – Winner of 4th Yinli HKPGA Order of Merit

The HKPGA is proud to announce its membership of “The Professional Golfers’ Associations of Europe” (The PGAs of Europe). Lee Man Lok, Lokky – Champion of 3rd Yinli HKPGA Order Of Merit Title

The Yinli HKPGA Order of Merit 2009 – Leg 3 took place on 1st & 2nd June at the Clearwater Bay Country Golf Club with three divisions, the Open, Ladies and Seniors Division. A total of 68 players were competing for the top spot, two of them were representing HKPGA as amateur player in the Ladies division. Lee Man Lok, Lokky from the Open Division clinched the championship with a combined score of 143 while Sung Sing produced a score of 150 to claim the Seniors Division title. Amateur Stephanie Ho, winner of the second leg, defended the Ladies Division title with a brilliant total score of 139.

The two-day-event was tightly contested. Most golfers produced excellent performance under the beautiful weather and perfect course condition. Yinli HKPGA Order Of Merit Leg 2 Winner - Derek Fung

The Yinli HKPGA Order of Merit 2009 - Leg 2 has come to an end after a two-day-competition on the 4th & 5th May. The Open Division took place at the Hong Kong Golf Club, while the Ladies and Seniors Division at the Long Island Golf & Country Club Derek Fung from the Open Division clinched the championship with a terrific six-under-par 64. Seniors Division title went to Alex Tang with a 2-day combine score of 147 (73/ 74) and elite amateur Stephanie Ho representing Hong Kong Golf Association took the title of the Ladies Division with a 2-day combine score of 146 (75/71).

A total of 48 players were competing for the top spot of the Open Division; three of them were representing HKGA as amateur golf players, including well-known junior amateur player Steven Lam, Liu Lok Tin and Shinichi Mizuno.

Prefect weather and excellent course condition allowing players to take on some of the New Course’s tough greens and tricky pin locations, with five players managed to hit sub par round, veteran James Stewart carded a one under par 69 and finished 5th, 1st round champion David Freeman and China tour qualifier Jovick Lee played beautifully & posted a pair of 67 and both tied at 3rd place...

The Yinli HKPGA Order of Merit 2009 took place on the 6&7th April at KSC north course, Hong Kong with 3 different divisions, the Open, Seniors & Ladies Division, a total of 65 players competing for the top spot, elite amateur players including Steven Lam and Tiffany Chan representing the Hong Kong Golf Association were also invited to compete for the first title of the calendar. After 2 days of intense competition, David Freeman emerges as the Open Division Champion with a 2-day combine score of 141(70/71). Seniors Division title went to Tommy Kan 149 (75/74) and Betty Ng took the title of the Ladies Division with the combine score of 156 (80/76).

UBS Hong Kong Open 2008 – Hong Kong Qualifying Round

Taking place from 10-11 November over the difficult North Course at Kau Sai Chau, 54 elite players from Hong Kong—comprising pros from the HKPGA and amateurs from the HKGA—battled it out over 36 holes at the UBS Hong Kong Open Qualifying tournament to earn one of four coveted spots at the co-sanctioned European and Asian Tour event.

The first day provided cool and windy conditions, which was reflected in the relatively high scoring. Indeed, 76 proved to be the lowest score of the day, which was achieved by four players: professionals James Stewart, MK Tang and Lokky Lee, and Florida-based amateur Jason Hak. Only one shot behind them was Head Professional at Kau Sai Chau Paul Riley and Alexander Cheng. HKPGA Order of Merit winner Wong Woon-man was a further shot adrift after a 78.

GIBSON RECORDS FIRST HKPGA SUCCESS OF THE SEASON

Grant Gibson clinched his first Hong Kong Professional Golf Association event of the season in style on Sept 9, recording a one-stroke victory over Chris Tang at Discovery Bay Golf Club. Asian Tour regular David Freeman finished in third, three shots further back.

Gibson, who has challenged for a number of HKPGA tournaments in recent times, showed no sign of nerves as he recorded a second consecutive round of 67, which gave him a two-day total of 134 (8-under-par). The victory earned the big-hitting Australian $20,000 and a leap up the HKPGA Order of Merit Standings...

Freeman Lands a Win!

A brilliant back nine of 31 (5-under-par) allowed David Freeman to clinch victory at the second leg of the HKPGA Order of Merit Championship today (May 28, 2008), a one stroke triumph over Wong Woon-man in second place. Derek Fung, the course record holder, carded a 68 to finish third, a further stroke adrift.

Freeman, 33, finished with a final round of 67 for a two-round total of 140(4-under-par) to finish ahead of his nearest competitor.

“I’m delighted,” said Freeman, an Asian Tour regular, who was born in Wales but has called Hong Kong his home since moving to the SAR thirteen years ago. “I came out today to make a bunch of birdies, and I achieved that. It wasn’t looking too good this morning, but I held out and was able to sink a few putts this afternoon. It was very satisfying...

Dominque Boulet fired a magnificent 4-under-par 68 over the North Course at The Jockey Club Kau Sai Chau Public Golf Course today to take the first round lead at leg two of the HKPGA’s Order of Merit. Boulet, who possibly spends more time behind the microphone commentating on ESPN Star Sports than playing these days, leads Wong Woon-man and Grant Gibson by two strokes.
