Junior Golf

Project Skyhigh Youth Life Education Through the Game of Golf

The project is hosted by the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Jockey Club Tin Shui Wai Integrated Services Centre (TWGHs) & co-sponsored by HKPGA (PGA) & Social Welfare Department Yuen Long District Office (SWD); the Leisure & Cultural Services Department (LCSD) provides the practice area.

The objective of the project is to provide less privileged teenagers an opportunity to learn & play golf through the supervision & guidance of social workers & our members, with the mission of broadening their life experience and vision of life through the sport of golf.

Thanks to the generous support & resources of TWGHs and SWD, the project started at Yuen Long & Tin Shui Wai district from April 2009 and recruited 60 children from the age of 12 to 18 for the beginner class, from which 20 were selected to move on a two-year advance level training course. Here, golf plays as the media for implementation of Life Education. Through the programs of mentorship scheme, disciplinary & confidence training, attending golf tournament as well as family activities, the teenagers are able to expand their scope of life and gained valuable experience.

Since the introduction of the program, it has been well received by public & numerous supports such as cash sponsorships by golfers, golf media coverage & golf products sponsors. Discussions with well known charitable organizations for more funding for a larger program are being held and hopefully the plan will be able to facilitate additional youngsters and make golf more popular.
